I was born and raised here in the United States of America. This country is my home. I've seen most of its cities, lived in nine of its states, served in its military, sung all its anthems, and paid every tax asked of me. I celebrate the freedoms I am granted here, the implicit values of a free market, and a clever Constitutional system of checks and balances. I am proud to be of a nation conceived in liberty and dedicated to the equality of men. I'm not always proud of what I see in our country today, though. We represent the most powerful and endowed people on earth and in history, but these gifts have made many of us hard of heart. Yes, this is America. But so is this. And there's this. What about this? And we can't forget this. America is indeed many things, shaped by an ongoing conversation with a future still to be determined. Now is a dangerous time, so I'm paying attention.
This is my personal contribution to the online American political dialogue. You may ask Why C-SPAN? or more likely, Who cares what you think? but you really won't know until you read, so come on in. All perspectives are indeed welcome. It may be clear by tracing the dates that I gave up on this some time ago. Nevertheless, I will plan on hosting my words and yours for a long time to come. |
