It's been about a year since I first launched this web site. In looking back at what I've accomplished, I for one am pretty satisfied with the trajectory. I realize, however, that most see things very differently. After all, in terms of participation I've launched my own contender for the least successful open source software effort in history: download rates approach noise and I couldn't solicit so much as a single suggestion. Many would consider that failure. Worse yet, I've grown positively boring. It may help to understand that much of what is on this site was preconceived long ago. I view the entirety of my efforts here to date as a singular act: just one iteration in a spiral model, one provocative pose. I stuck with my game plan for a full run but now I'm headed back to the drawing boards. The LDAPHttp v0.6 release cycle is complete. There will be no new 0.6 public releases unless I'm notified of problems.
I know I broke a lot of rules. Much was done on purpose to test the boundaries and learn. I've learned, and have amply reconsidered. It's time to leave an uninterested public alone and hibernate in the ivory cathedral for a long winter's think. Clearly, if I want to succeed in collaborative development, I have to change my tack and tune. Even a culture of one must digest change, so I'm tabling the effort to reconstitute. First though, I want to bring some closure to the existing content, which will remain online. I added an edition of the gospel in Chinese (UT), although it's likely your browser doesn't support it yet even with UTF-8 selected. As usual you can get the new text by verse, chapter, book or file of LDIF updates. I'll keep adding translations, but otherwise I do believe I'm done talking about religion: save thyself. Political winds are changing too, be blessed, so C-SPAN can wait. My time to vocalize my personal perspective has passed. I should also let you know I'm not currently available.
That's right, another gig. That doesn't mean I'm not still committed to open source software. I'll use very little else, myself. It also doesn't mean that I'm abandoning LDAPHttp. I explicitly plan to release a version 0.7 of LDAPHttp next year, and if you have any problems, questions, or suggestions in the meantime you know where to find me. I'm not even really giving up on free speaking; the weblogs will stay operational, so fire away. The only other thing I plan to put out on this web site myself before the year is up, however, is my first record album. Coming this Christmas Tent Sin TowardsTen songs from Hilfiger ToutDon't look for it in stores. I made it all by my lonesome for wide world and the ears of heaven. It won't bother me at all if nobody wants the music, because the joy is in the giving. Someday, maybe you'll understand, or maybe you already do. Regardless, I apologize for any trouble I may have caused this past year. And so goodnight Leonard Schneider, adieu President George, and thank you Jesus. Until we again remember, reunite, reconnect, just know... I'll be back |
