Mass Deregulation of the Mass Communication

Observed
June 2, 2003
Content
FCC Commissioner Jonathan Adelstein points out exactly what's wrong with the big plans for changing media ownership rules, saying "It's not the FCC's job to make sure the big broadcasters make money". TV stations alone average 20-50% profit margins, but if you buy a whole bunch and pump the same generic crap through them, it's likely not all of them will succeed. Meanwhile a single company can now own the local papers, local cable, and multiple radio stations in a decent size town like Great Falls, MT. It's all trending this way. Someday, maybe reality will end up looking like reality TV.

The vote is interrupted by singing women, but with 5 Republicans and 2 Democrats on the FCC, the results and probable bloodbath over dissent with Michael K's plan X will make Congress look almost democratic.
