Ramon Humberto Colas, to me, is a modern hero. By defiantly holding Castro to his word and founding the first independent library of Cuba, he led a movement that creates assurance criticism of totalitarian rule will continue to exist in his culture. While success in Iraq has emboldened the neos to speculate about knocking out Cuba to make Korea a three-peat, Colas presents an alternative: he implores the House International Relations Committee in a flawless written speech to express in resolve and action a solidarity with the *peaceful* forces at work in Cuba to make change. Cuba has a tradition of peaceful revolution, even Castro's, but the man who did it best is the name Colas invokes at the close of his speech: Jose Marti.
