Medical Negligence: Liability Limits

This vote was on tabling an amendment (Amdt. 4326), sponsored by Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), to the Greater Access to Affordable Pharmaceuticals Act (S. 812). The amendment sought to take away critical state-based rights that currently enable victims of medical negligence to seek fuller compensation for injuries and deaths. Patient safety also would have been placed at risk as limits on lawsuits will reduce deterrence against wrongdoing by doctors, HMOs, hospitals, nursing homes and drug companies.
