| This vote was on H.R. 4, the House energy bill, which incorporated much of President Bush's energy policy goals. It would open the Alaskan Arctic National Wildlife Refuge for oil drilling, provide $36 billion in tax breaks and subsidies for the oil and nuclear industries, allow oil companies to forgo paying taxpayers cash for drilling on public land, gut environmental review processes for oil production on public lands, and provide incentives to nuclear power plants to run longer and hotter. It would largely ignore efforts to increase investments in renewable energy and energy efficiency. Passed 240 Yea to 189 Nay. |
